US-based sportswear brand Under Armour, marking its first appearance in the metaverse, announced a partnership with NBA star Stephen Curry to release a non-fungible token – a digital asset, unique and tradeable on the blockchain – as part of a promotion for his new record as a basketball’s top three-point shooter. It’s no secret that the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry is one of the best ball-handlers in the game. To commemorate his 2,974 career three-pointers, Under Armour has released a special edition of the Curry Flow 9.

Under Armour has teamed up with Curry to launch the Curry Flow 9 in virtual reality, so they hired NewKino to help. 2,974 pairs of shoes will be made available for $333 each to commemorate his record and give rare access to rarely-appearing crossover content across blockchain-based games. For token holders, this virtual sneaker will become wearable in Sandbox, Decentraland & Rumble Kong League. As well as being “usable” on Gala Games

Stephen Curry enters NFT space

The Curry Flow 9 NFTs will be showcased as videos that show highlights from Stephen Curry’s career as well as the design of the shoe. Images displayed on a wall can also demonstrate different aspects of the shoe. Under Armour has not yet announced when the shoe will be made available. However, there are other ways to get the shoe and show your support outside of purchasing it outright.

These NFTs are the result of a mint operation on Polygon 1155 tokens. Polygon is a blockchain and Ethereum alternative and its fairly easy to add it as a new network to your existing Metamask wallet

“100 percent of the net revenue for this project will be donated to charities that offer greater access to sports for underprivileged youth. Access to team programs, coaching development, safe places to play, equipment and gear,” Gala Games said in a press release.

As Nike and Adidas enter into the metaverse, Under Armour has the Curry Flow 9 their first entry into this space which has quickly become brands new grounds for competition.

Stephen Curry contributed to the rise in popularity of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by investing $180,000 in one of the most popular NFT collections out there, Bored Ape Yacht Club. What started off as a hobby for him, ended up being a profitable venture. Apparently, Brian Curry has replaced his Twitter profile picture with a sketch of a zombie-like creature in a suit.

Curry also announced the launch of another NFT collection, this one with FTX US. The set features over 2974 digital tokens, each representing one of Curry’s many 3-points shots. This is not the first time an athlete has used cryptocurrency to raise funds for charity.
