India’s Mars Orbiter Mission stopped communication after 9 years

India’s historic Mars Orbiter Mission officially came to an end in 2022

The orbiter entered Mars orbit in September 2014 and was designed to last six months.

The orbiter has continued to function for many years beyond its designed life and reports suggest that the end of the mission is near.

Indian ISRO sources have said that there is no more fuel left in the orbiter.

Its battery was unable to be charged as the solar panel system couldn't charge them due to prolonged eclipses.

The Mangalyaan was launched in a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle on 5 November 2013 and reached Mars on 24 September 2014

Historically, Indian Space Agency ISRO has only operated in a low Earth orbit. Its journey to Mars was India’s first interplanetary mission.

At a budget of 450 crores, this is one the cheapest missions in space.
